I've spent my career on a single idea: that understanding the law shouldn't depend on how much money you have.

In 1963, as a law student, I helped found the Law Students Civil Rights Research Council. Soon after, I served as counsel to the first director of the federal Legal Services Program — the effort that first put free legal help within reach of Americans who couldn't afford a lawyer. That work set the direction for everything I've done since.

In 1999, I launched MyLawyer.com — one of the first websites to put legal forms and plain-language legal information directly in the hands of consumers, at a time when the very idea drew sharp pushback from the legal establishment. Around the same period I built Peoples-Law.org for ordinary people in Maryland. It worked well enough that the Maryland court system adopted it — today it is the Maryland Judiciary's official public legal information service for the state's citizens. I later founded DirectLaw, an early pioneer in delivering legal documents online, and was named one of the American Bar Association's “Legal Rebels.”

JusticeXpress Florida is the next chapter of that same work — six decades aimed at one thing: making the law accessible to everyone.

That mission is now built into the company itself. JusticeXpress Florida is a service of JusticeXpress, Inc., a Public Benefit Corporation — a company legally chartered to pursue a public mission, not just a profit. For us that mission is access to justice, and our structure holds us to it.

So the promise on this site — that we will never charge you for what the government gives away free — isn't a marketing line. It's the principle I've built everything around. Legal information should be free for every Floridian, regardless of income. And when you need to act, your documents should cost a fraction of attorney fees, with no subscriptions and nothing hidden.

That's the whole idea. It always has been.
